Help!
He walks along the road rhythmically shaking the can. The little stones inside provide the sound and the rhythm reminds him of the words he has memorized. This aged pastor has walked for more than a day to a village where they have a Bible. He has memorized the verses he wants to use in Sunday’s sermon using the discarded Coke can and pebbles. Now as he walks home he uses the rhythm to say again and again the words he has learned by heart. His people are relying on him to be accurate and he fears his memory will fail him. If only he had his own Bible, preaching would be so much easier…
This is the story of one particular man, but it is also the story of many, many pastors in Africa and around the world. They love God but do not own God’s Word. Millions of believers who desperately desire to learn more, to be discipled and to walk in the Lord’s footsteps do not even have access to the Bible.
For most of us, this seems impossible. Bookshelves in stores display them, whole departments are dedicated to them, the variety of size, type, publication and translation makes your head spin, most homes have at least one, many have several – the Bible seems so common that it never enters our minds that there may be those who have no access to God’s Word. We are not talking about the general population in remote countries, we are talking about those won to Christ through missionary and evangelistic endeavors.
Across the world God is blessing the work of many churches and organizations as they plant churches and lead thousands to Christ. So much so that they cannot keep up with the number of Bibles needed to do the follow-up and discipleship that is so necessary for converts to grow into followers of the Lord Jesus. We can make a difference. By putting the Word of God into the hands of a believer we will change the world – one Bible at a time! Bibles for Believers works with church planting organizations that are serious about responsible evangelism. We are not interested in ‘hit-and-run’ campaigns. We do not use the Bible as an evangelistic tool (There are organizations that do so successfully). We want to make disciples out of converts. We want to see God’s will done. We want to see changed lives. You can make a difference today. Give Today!
