A Cry for Help

Almost every day I receive a cry for help from somewhere in the world. Please give us Bibles! As more people hear about our ministry - in South Africa and abroad - people are calling on us to help meet their desperate need for God's Word.

Pastors, mission leaders and individual Christians write to tell us just how few Bibles are available or how expensive they are. Ministries planting new churches and those whose focus is discipleship are finding it ever more difficult to provide sufficient numbers of Bibles to the people they are winning to Christ.

On the one hand we should rejoice. The Gospel is finding fertile ground, people are being saved and churches are being planted. On the other hand we should be deeply concerned. God made us responsible for discipling the nations. People need to be transformed.

For this to happen, people need God's Word.

Help us to meet the ever increasing number of requests through prayer and through continued generosity towards fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Help us to ever widen our ministry to include countries where the requests are coming from. Let God be glorified. Let His Word become available to all His children.

24 Hour Prayer

For more than a year we have been planning to establish a 24 hour prayer ministry among our partners. Several of you have already indicated a desire to participate and I am sure many will join us.

The idea is to choose one or more half-hour slots in a week when you will pray with and for us. We will provide you with prayer requests for our various ministries. We need your intercession.

Below is an example for a 24 hour weekly calendar. Please choose your slot/slots and email the time slot(s) and your partner number (or your Name and Surname) to us.

TIME Sunday Monday Tuesday --> Saturday
00.00-00.30
00.30-01.00
01.00-01.30
01.30-02.00
|
23.30-00.00

Over time we hope to fill all the slots and have continuous prayer.

If you choose a time slot you are saying that you will try to faithfully pray at that time - this is not a legally binding commitment that should bring stress to your life. If you were to miss your slot for some reason - pray at another time and next week try to get back into your program.

We look forward to you partnering with us through prayer.

Geesje, Liza, Marli, Peter and Elsa with pastors from Malawi where they delivered Bibles.Outreach to Malawi, July 2010
A Testimony by Elsa van Velden

“The warm heart of Africa.” This is what I really experienced the past two weeks - the friendliness and hospitality of the Malawians.

The goal of the outreach was to do house to house evangelism as well as to place Bibles.

Initially we hoped to place 750 Bibles in the Cape Maclear and Monkey Bay areas. We had the privilege of working with local pastors and interpreters. Each day we went out to a village where we went out in teams to do door-to-door evangelism. It was amazing to see how many people do not know the Lord and yet are hungry for the Gospel.

We were very aware of our dependence on the Spirit to do the work in people's hearts. The local pastors took down the names of people who came to Christ and will do the follow up. The details of every church that was planted was also recorded for follow up.

The second part of the outreach was dedicated to delivering Bibles to local churches. Our group split up into two teams to visit two areas. Specific numbers of Bibles were given to each church and I experienced a new level of gratitude among the people. People literally jumped for joy because of the Bibles they received and I could see the gratitude and excitement in their eyes.

With each placement I experienced two poles of emotion - on the one side I was grateful with those who received Bibles, and on the other side I was sad for those who did not get Bibles. Each day I realised just how great the need for Bibles is in Malawi. People are truly hungry for God's Word. At one placement an old man received a Bible. His emotions touched my heart deeply. I could see that he had waited a long time for a Bible and I was struck by how privileged I am to have had a Bible of my own since childhood.

During these two weeks I realised how big the need is in Africa, so big it almost makes you despondent - until you realise that every person that accepts Christ is a soul that is no longer lost. I praise the Lord for a wonderful, blessed outreach.

(Several Reformed Churches contributed towards the 1,000 Bibles that were eventually delivered to believers in Malawi - Steven Loots).

Additional Office Space

After much prayer we have acquired the house next door for additional office space for the Harvesters family of ministries. With great joy we broke through the bounding wall separating the two properties and started preparing the house as office space. Thank you to everyone who contributed and prayed so that we can grow.
Staff members who moved across had huge smiles as well as they suddenly had space to move - they had been very cramped (8 in two rooms). We praise God for his wonderful provision.

Burundi

After writing this request, God answered our need before we could send it out. Anton and Diane, missionaries in Burundi, sent a request for 15 Bible commentaries in the Kirundi language for their pastoral students. These can only by acquired locally and cost US$16 each (R1 920 for all 15). In the past Bibles for Believers has provided Kirundi Bibles to Anton for believers in the churches he is ministering to.
We have been able to cover these costs and purchase several Bibles through a sponsor, but if you want to add more Kirundi Bibles to the gift, mark your gift 'Burundi' along with your partner number.

Camel Project 2011

Looking forward to next year, B4B (Bibles for Believers) hopes to repeat the success we saw with the Camel Project in 2010. Plans are progressing well and the idea is that the camels and their handlers will walk from Beitbrug to Rustenburg.

We hope to start in February 2011 and the journey will end in early May. The camels will stop in various towns along the way. We hope to arrange breakfasts along the route. Schools and churches will be approached to participate in the project.

Testimony - Jan Arends

(Jan Arends is married to Katriena. He is 47 and has four daughters. He is a full time missionary. He lives is Kakamas in the Northern Cape. Jan led the team that completed to Camel Project walk from Kakamas to Heidelberg for B4B)

It is my privilege to inform you of the work of Oranje Oes-Sending, it is a ministry amongst the Tswana nation.

The Lord gave me a vision in 1995 about ministering His Word to the Tswana people. Along the banks of the Orange River, east and west of Kakamas there are thousands of hectares of vineyards. Annually more than 60 000 seasonal Tswana workers come to help bring in the harvest they come from the North West Province.

My goal is to evangelise these workers and to plant churches along the Orange River. Oranje-Oes Sending is a faith mission and is completely dependent on the Lord - He showed me the Harvest and the need.

The Camel Project

Seven years ago I received a Word from the Lord to spread His Word with a camel. 2010 turned out to be the right time to work with Bibles for Believers and their Zimbabwe Project. On the 20th of February we started out from Kakamas on a journey covering 1 100km to Heidelberg. The symbol of the camel is Hope - hope for our country, hope for Africa, hope for the world and for its people. Matt. 19:24-26 teaches us that what for us is impossible, God makes possible.

God is faithful.
